Titanic Heart of the Ocean Earring

The Heart of the Ocean is the name of a fictional blue diamond featured prominently in the 1997 film Titanic. Originally owned by Louis XIV, this fictional diamond was cut into a heart shape after the French Revolution. Caledon Hockley (Billy Zane), the wealthy son of a Pittsburgh steel tycoon, purchased the diamond for his fiancée, Rose (Kate Winslet).
Historic accounts tell of a blue sapphire pendant aboard the original Titanic. It was given to passenger Kate Florence Phillips by her married lover Samuel Morley as they fled to America to make a new life for themselves. Morley died in the sinking of the Titanic and it is believed that this story was the inspiration for James Cameron’s film. The idea of a blue diamond is also present in the 1943 Titanic movie where it plays an important role in a love affair.
